Joseph Michael Szewczyk

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joseph Michael Szewczyk at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2021, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas.  Monsignor Russell Harrington will celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal and burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. 

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joseph Michael Szewczyk, age 79, on Friday, April 9, 2021, at his residence.

Joseph served his country proudly in the United States Navy.  He enjoyed daily readings with the Lord, casual exercises and walks.  He was a mentor for AA and helped many less fortunate and struggling individuals over the years.  Joseph will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Lynne Szewczyk; his grandchildren, Danielle David Allen and husband, Joel Allen, Ashely David Fontenot and husband, Dr. Brandon Fontenot, Brooke David and Hunter David and his great-grandchildren, Korryn Young, Presley Allen, Layla Fontenot, Rhett Fontenot, Eden Fontenot, Maddox Fontenot and Monroe Willis; his brothers, Daniel Szewczyk, Richard Szewczyk, Michael Szewczyk and Robert Szewczyk and his sisters, Mary Ann Szewczyk Breslin, Patricia Szewczyk and Nancy Szewczyk.

He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph John Szewczyk and Lottie Silwinski Szewczyk. 

Pallbearers will be Hunter David, Dr. Brandon Fontenot, Joel Allen, Adrien Adams, Derrick Comeaux and Glenn Carter.
