Paul Lawrence Hopp, 49, of Joppa, MD, formerly of Hagerstown, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD. Born on September 21, 1971 in Hagerstown, he was the son of Carrie (Leggett) (Hopp) George and Lawrence Paul Hopp, Sr. Paul was a graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School, class of 1989. He also attended Clear Spring High School. He graduated from Towson University with a degree in Physics. Paul was employed as a civilian with the U.S. Army as a scientist at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Paul was a devout Catholic, having been baptized at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Hagerstown, he also attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Clear Spring. Paul enjoyed restoring Mercury Comets and attending car shows. In addition to his parents, Paul is survived by his step-mother Rebecca Hopp and step-father John George, his brother Mark Hopp and wife Jessica of Waynesboro, VA, his sister Angela Hopp of Chambersburg, PA; two stepsisters, Tanaya Richards and husband, Aaron and Kara Scott and husband, Jeff; four nieces; Carolyn and Delaney Hopp, Kayla Shank and husband, Josh and Jensen Richards; three nephews; Lawrence (Lance) Hopp II, Jace Hopp and Kaleb Hopp. Paul was preceded in death by grandparents John and Carolyn Leggett and Bernard and Frances Hopp. A Funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 2PM at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Fr. Robert Albright officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. Friends will be received one hour prior. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks will be required, 50% capacity allowed in the chapel.
