Rose Grunig

Rose Marie Grunig (Kolb), born December 24, 1951, entered eternal rest at the age of 69, on April 6, 2021, in Peoria, Arizona. She is the daughter of Donna (Schocker) and Duane Kolb and is the eldest of six children. She attended St. Augustine Grade School from first through the eighth grade. During her high school years, she attended Pacelli High school and graduated from Austin High School. During her senior year, she met Gerald Grunig. They married in 1971. They are blessed with two children, Jeremy (Pilar) of Vacaville, California, and Dawn (Frank) Crawford of Glendale, Arizona. In 1974, the family packed their things and left Minnesota for Arizona. While raising children and working full-time, Rose fulfilled her dream of becoming a teacher. She received a Bachelor of Arts with a dual major in General Education and Special Education from Arizona State University. She later received a Masters of Education in Early Childhood and Educational Leadership. Rose worked in education for over 30 years, teaching preschool, general education, special education, and religious education. She also mentored new teachers. In her spare time, she loved motorcycling (in her younger years), reading, arts and crafts, flower arranging, traveling, and volunteering. She was active with the PTA (state and local) and PTO of several schools. Rose sewed heart pillows for the heart patients at a hospital and helped make baptismal bibs for her church. Rose was active in St. Raphael Church, in the Women’s Guild, where she held various officer positions, including the president, and was a Eucharistic Minister at the 9 a.m. Mass. She is survived by her husband, Gerald (Gerry), her son Jeremy (Pilar), her daughter Dawn (Frank) Crawford, one granddaughter, Felicia (Liz) Crawford Angulo, three step-grandsons, Shane (Julie), Dustin (Murphy), and Mason (Kenna), two step-great granddaughters, Allison, Sara, two step-great grandsons Nathan, Hudson, her mother Donna, and one sister, Renee. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Pat, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father Duane, brothers Raymond, Rodney, Russell, and Ralland, her grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home will provide services in Avondale, AZ. Visitation will be April 20, 2021, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., with prayer service at 6:30 p.m. The celebration of her life will be on April 21, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., held at St. Raphael Parish, Glendale, AZ. (Please note, St. Raphael Church is being remodeled, all services are being held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 3220 W. Greenway Road, Phoenix, AZ.) In lieu of flowers, Rose requested that you make donations to cancer research, autism research, or the general fund at St. Raphael Catholic Church.
