John E. Rider

John E. Rider, 82, of Rockville, CT passed peacefully at home on April 7, 2021 with his loving daughters and family at his side. John was born in Hartford, CT on November 8, 1938 to Raymond and Sarah (Grant) Rider. He lived in Rockville most of his life. John graduated Rockville High and worked for Palymer Films in Rockville and Watson Foods in West Haven, CT his whole life. He married the love of his life Joan (Rice) Rider on August 6, 1960. They met at Crystal Lake, CT, roller skating. They both enjoyed the outdoors, camping at Black Pond and Beaver Pines in Woodstock, CT. Johns passion was CB radio and hunting. John had a wicked sense of humor and was always joking. John loved his family dinners with friends. John is survived by his two daughters Debra Rider (whom was his caregiver for the last 2 years), Diana (Rider) Miller and husband Frank Miller, also his grandchildren, Sharon McFarlene, Adam Miller as well as his great grandchildren, Cody Linnell, Leila Betterley, Victoria Miller, Kailee Miller, Eddy Johnson, Kassidy Miller and Mac Miller, with a great great grandchild on the way with Cody and Anne. John is predeceased by his wife Joan (Rice) Rider, brother Tom Rider and grandson Allen Miller. We would like to thank the Visiting Nurses for their hard work and support. Relatives and friends may join the family on Monday, April 12, 2021 between 4pm-6pm at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville, CT. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 11am at the Burke Fortin Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Vernon, CT.
