Grace M Catalano

Grace M. Catalano passed away peacefully on April 8, 2021, at the age of 92. Grace was born in Verplanck, NY, the daughter of Vincenzo and Concetta Tropiano on April 25, 1928, the eldest of five children. She graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, NY in 1945. Upon graduation, Grace was a secretary for Dorsey Fabrics, located in the Empire State Building in New York City. On April 24, 1949 Grace married Anthony Catalano and began her new career on the third floor of her father-in-law’s apartment on North Water St. While also raising a family, she acted as secretary in the family business, which later became J. Catalano & Sons Inc., until her retirement. The most important things in Grace’s life were her faith, family, cooking and gardening. She had a running list of friends and family members she was praying for on a daily basis. She would never let you leave from a visit without some home-made food or vegetables from her garden. She took up golf in her later years and was a member of the Greenwich Womens Golf Club. She loved traveling with her siblings and with the Glenville Seniors. Grace enjoyed her trips to her home in Orleans, Cape Cod which included clamming and crabbing with her husband, siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of her fondest memories were of her large, extended family gathering at her house for holidays with lots of food, laughter and bellies full with her famous escarole soup. Grace was proud of still working in her garden at the age of 92. Grace was predeceased by her husband, Anthony and daughter, Donna Stempien. She is survived by her son Joseph (Susan) and daughter Toni Jean (Bruno) Minichino, her grandchildren Jessica Catalano, Alyssa (Brian) Ferenz, Krista (Michael) Pietrafeso, Tara (Rob) Harvey, Lindsay (Michael) Prinz, A.J. Minichino, Michael (Michelle) Stempien and Sarah Stempien. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren; Ella, Josie and Clara Pietrafeso, Levi, Calvin and Winona Ferenz and R.C. and Ryan Harvey. Grace will be greatly missed by her brothers Joseph (Natalie) and Vincent (Marilyn) Tropiano, her sisters Joan (Stanley) Tucci and Angie (Joseph) Manfredo as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Grace’s niece, Marcie Husband, for all her love, care and devotion to her aunt. They would also like to thank Dr. Lee of Greenwich Hospital.
