GALVA – Neil S. Johnson, 92, of Galva, died at 8:50 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at the home of his daughter.

A public visitation will be held from 9:30 -10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 17 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva followed by private funeral services with Rev. Randy Swanson officiating. Burial will be held at Galva Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be directed to the Galva American Legion.

He was born July 20, 1928 in Galva, the son of Neil R. and Loris (Kelly) Johnson. He married Beth A. Thompson on February 23, 1952 in Annawan and she preceded him in death on January 30, 2017. Survivors include his four daughters; Janet (Roozbeh) Tavakoli of Selinsgrove, PA and Dawn (Doug) Anderson, Denise Johnson and Elizabeth “Libby” (Mark) Maxwell, all of Galva, four grandchildren; Ashley (Andrew) Willer, Allison (Nicholas) Zurcher and Ariana and Thierran Tavakoli and three great grandchildren; Madelyn and Evelyn Willer and Carson Zurcher. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cleos Ann Lundeen.

Neil graduated from Altona High School in 1948. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had a love for farming and was a grain and livestock farmer for many years. He was affiliated with the Messiah Lutheran Church and was a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Burns Grange. He had been in several card clubs with his wife and in his early years played softball with the Bishop Hill Swedes. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed following Big 10 college sports especially the Fighting Illini. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family.
