<p>Shirley Ruth Verd passed away on March 30, 2021 in Coffeyville, Kansas at Windsor Place.</p> <p>Shirley was born on May 28, 1936 to Ray W. and Bernice (Rausch) Babcock in Earlton, Kansas in rural Wilson County.&nbsp; She was the only girl in a family of six boys.&nbsp; Shirley grew up in rural Altoona, attending school in Altoona where she also graduated high school.</p> <p>Shirley worked as a waitress most of her life working everywhere her husband Bill Verd was stationed with the U S Navy until his honorable discharge.&nbsp; She enjoyed visiting Nashville, Tennessee, listening to country music, and caring her dogs until she moved to Windsor Place. Shirley enjoyed her time at Windsor and visiting with the other residence.</p> <p>Shirley is survived by her step-son Fred Verd; step-daughter, Karen Bunce and Terri Utter; niece, Martha Huie brothers, John Babcock of Topeka, Kansas, Otis Babcock of Iola, Kansas, Everett Babcock of Dearing, Bob Babcock of Fredonia, Kansas, J.D. Babcock and Larry Babcock both of Thayer, Kansas.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Duane Pomeroy.</p> <p>Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel at Shirley&rsquo;s request. Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 12 Noon at Altoona Cemetery, KS-47, Altoona, Kansas.
