Obituary

As a rank-and-file professional auto mechanic and landscape artist, Melvin Olin Melton born March 13, 1935 died peacefully at home on April 6, 2021 due to “Hardheaded and Shrewd Behavior.” He was “Smarter than the Average bear.”

Now the angels can sing “Go Rest High on that Mountain Carolina Blue.”

He joined his beautiful mother Atha Aldridge-Melton to celebrate her Apr 2nd birthday, brother Ray Melton (Viet Nam Veteran), and son Donald Melton (Talented Musician), Side-Kick Kobe (the human dog) Melton and his extended heavenly family at the recent age of 86.

Melvin settled all his affairs by “Whooping Somebody’s Ass.” Or a game of 500 Rummy.

Not really. To know Melvin is to love him as we all do. He gave the “Shirt off his Mighty Strong Back” to everyone.

Melvin was an avid NASCAR fan, wrestling critic, and grill master. He could argue the merits of Richard Petty, Haystacks Calhoun, and The Betty Crocker School of the Air.

Melvin is survived by his son Olin Melton and his wife Dr. Bobbie Melton (both Viet Nam Veterans) of Austin TX, brother Ronnie Melton (Viet Nam Veteran) and his wife Margaret Melton of Monroe NC, sister Marsha Stanley and her husband Bill Stanley of Wingate NC, granddaughters Margie Acosta (Black & Decker operations manager) of Charlotte NC and Kendra Melton (two-time Emmy award winner Rick and Morty TV) of Burbank CA, grandsons DJ Melton and Anthony Melton of Charlotte NC, and loving close family Marvin and Lenora Lane (affectionately adopted son and daughter).

There are notable loving care givers that Melvin added to his life story: Roger Boone, Brandon Hobbs, and Jonathan Vanstone, Dr Mathew Thomas (Primary Dr), and the unsung heroes of the Hospice team (Nurse Denise, Chaplain Nate, and Nursing Aide Anitra).

Please make donations to Meals on Wheels, Lancaster Council of Aging, South Carolina House Calls, or Kindred Hospice.
