Gastonia Bill Mincey Floyd “Bill” Samuel Mincey, Jr. age 92, died on April 7, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born May 1, 1928 in Gaston County, the eldest of four children of the late Floyd Samuel Mincey, Sr. and Sallie Digh Mincey. Raised during the Great Depression, he began working after school at the age of 10 at a local community grocery store, performing chores suitable for an industrious youngster. He attended Evans Business College and was proud to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning home, he became a partner in the Myrtle-Arkray Grocery Store, later becoming the sole owner and renaming the store Mincey Food Mart. As an independent grocer until his retirement in 1994, he was much respected and much appreciated for the outstanding service and kindness shown to his many loyal customers. He was a longtime member of Myrtle United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many fishing trips with family and long-time friends. Following his retirement, he and Barbara enjoyed traveling to new destinations and exploring the area and its culture. He will be remembered by those who knew and loved him for his devotion to his family and for his abiding interest and support in their lives. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Robinson Mincey; his loving sisters, Dorothy Maney and Loretta Grigg; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margie Pryor Mincey, and his brother, Charles “Bob” Mincey. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia Founders Chapel with Revs. Gerald Ramsey and Jeff Taylor officiating. Entombment with military rites by the Gaston County Honor Guard will follow in Gaston Memorial Park Mausoleum of Peace. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Myrtle United Methodist Church, PO Box 12825, Gastonia, NC 28053.
