Sylvia K. Kvidahl Napa, California Obituary

Sylvia K. Kvidahl

Sylvia Kate Kvidahl passed away on January 28, 2017 surrounded by family and lots of love. She was born on November 25, 1929 in Yoakum, Texas to Charles and Rose Condel. She grew up helping work on the farm with her older sister Irene and younger sister Joyce and graduated from Yoakum High School in 1947. The Condel family moved to Vallejo, California in 1948 and Sylvia went to work at Lakeside Dairy where she met the love of her life, Edward Kvidahl. Sylvia and Edward were married on March 18, 1950 and the couple made their home in Vallejo raising their three children. In 1967, the Kvidahl family made the move to Napa, where Sylvia lived until her death. Sylvia had many jobs, including working for a funeral home at age 13, being the bookkeeper for the Napa Ice Company, Silverado Furniture and a receptionist for Kaiser Permanente in Vallejo until she retired in 1994. Sylvia was a proud member of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Vallejo and then Redeemer Lutheran in Napa (now Napa Valley Lutheran Church) singing in the choir, member of the altar guild, coffee hour server, Grace circle member and involved in countless other ways. Sylvia lived a full life and had a love for crosswords, jigsaw puzzles and working in the yard. She enjoyed dining at Lyon's restaurant, road trips to her hometown of Yoakum, and games of cribbage. She was thoughtful, never forgot a birthday, could change a tire and made sure the house was always stocked with treats for the kids. She was a bowler, a competitive roller skater and an avid stamp collector. She loved studying the bible, watching her favorite TV shows (Lawrence Welk topping the list) and reading the newspaper. Sylvia took delight in a good cup of coffee, made the best fried chicken, round steak and of course her famous beef jerky. She loved spending time with her family and telling her infamous stories to anyone within earshot. She was generous, opinionated and as stubborn as they come. Sylvia was faithful, believed in the power of prayer, and was the strongest woman we'll ever know. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, her two sisters and her husband. She is survived by her son Edward Christopher Kvidahl Jr.(Karen), her daughters Rene Sylvia Kvidahl (Sam Arriola) and Deborah Elayne Stock (Larry). She is also survived by her grandchildren Edward Christopher Kvidahl III (Tracy), Sara Kvidahl Schmitz (Joey), Katharine Wickland (Scott), Rebecca Winther (Kyle), Rachel Stock and Alexandria Arriola. Sylvia always loved children and treasured her time with her great-grandchildren Erik, Emma, Georgia, Rory, Nathan and Piper. Sylvia was loved by many and will remain in our hearts forever. We take solace in knowing that after nearly thirty years apart, Sylvia was able to be reunited in heaven with her beloved Edward. We will miss you Mom and Grandma, but you will always be a part of us. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 4 at Napa Valley Lutheran Church, 1796 Elm St., Napa CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Navajo Lutheran Mission, PO Box 354, Rock Point, AZ 86545.
