Phyllis Evelyn "Susie" Pike-Jessop Obituary

Phyllis Evelyn “Susie” Pike-Jessop, 78, of Kemps Mill, Maryland, passed from this life on April 3rd, 2021, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.

Born on August 1, 1942, in nearby Bakersville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Pike Sr. and Edna (Mills) Pike.

Susie was a graduate of Williamsport High School. She was a dedicated homemaker most of her life but also enjoyed working with her daughter and coworker friends at The Cosmetics Company Store in Hagerstown for many years. Susie was a life-time learner, an avid daily reader of The Herald Mail Newspaper, and was always reading a book. She loved travel and some of her favorite trips were to Canada and Arizona.

Susie was the most wonderful human being you could have the pleasure to have known. She was a loving and generous daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She loved us all openly, unselfishly, and with passion. To say there was nothing more important to her than her family is an understatement; and she sacrificed much over her time for the sake of others. She was also a great friend to the natural world, having been a close companion to numerous dogs and cats throughout her life; an avid and renowned flower gardener and landscaping imagineer, patron of her beloved song birds and neighborhood deer, and a lover of all outdoor activity. She was an upstanding citizen and a very proud American. She was as charitable with her resources as she was with her love and caring. She lived an honorable life, her Karma bank was overflowing with currency. She was a positive example and genuine inspiration for many over the span of her lifetime. Gatherings at Susie’s were commonplace, year round. She hosted the family reunion at her home in the country for the last several years; which was also the nexus for countless impromptu reunions over the 50-plus years she called it home, this home being on the site of the family farm she grew up on as well.

Susie is survived by her children, Larry Jessop, Darren Jessop, Julie Jessop-Moran and husband Patrick; grandchildren Jena, Jade, Laney, Aidan, Harrison, Abigail, and Ireland; great-grandchildren Bentley, Emmitt and Scarlett; siblings Mary Guessford, Bess Shollay, Wayne Pike, and Judy Seal. Susie is also survived my many in-laws, nieces, nephews and their children, who were all dear to her. She will be sorely missed by her beloved dachshund, Tawny, too.

In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gary Lane Jessop, brothers Eddie and Bobby Pike, sister Ruby, and granddaughter Marianna.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague Street, Williamsport, MD. The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Wednesday for convenience of family and friends.

A celebration of Susie’s life will be held at the Historic Springfield Barn, in the Williamsport Town Park, at 11 AM on Thursday, April 22, 2021 with Pastor Walt Roberts of Crossroads Church leading the ceremony. A social will be hosted by Susie’s sister Bess Shollay at her home on Clarence Pike Sr. Drive, following the service.

The family welcomes flowers. Donations may be dedicated to the Susie Pike-Jessop Memorial Gift Fund at her favorite charity, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital (http://giftfunds.stjude.org/Susie_Jessop).
