Douglas J Swindell Obituary

Douglas James Swindell, 59, formerly of Framingham passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 4, 2021 with his loving family by his side after a sudden illness.  Born in Melrose, he was the son of the late William H & Joan C. (Venezia) Swindell.

Douglas was a 1979 graduate of Framingham North High School, and a 1983 graduate of Bentley College with a degree in Finance.  He began his career in the banking industry before quickly finding his passion in the entrepreneurial world of restaurant and entertainment start-up business.  Having worked locally in the Framingham and Boston area at various venues, Douglas moved to CA to help start-up a restaurant and entertainment business with a close friend.  After a few successful years in CA, Douglas moved to Maui, HI to again start-up restaurant and entertainment businesses.  During his time in Maui, in addition to making many friends, he found enjoyment in horseback riding and attending rodeos. Douglas’ biggest enjoyments were spending time with his family and looking for his next adventure.  A devastating automobile accident in October of 1999 eventually brought Douglas back home to the Boston area to live out his remaining years with his beloved family and friends.

Douglas is survived by his son Samuel Roberts, sister Donna Swindell-Peloquin & her husband Paul of Franklin, brother David W. Swindell & his wife Karen of Milford, and his stepsister, Susan Grant-Romaine & her husband Douglas of Riverview, FL.  He was the loving and fun uncle to, Nicole Hutchinson, James Staruk-Peloquin, Jennifer Johnson, Christopher Swindell (late) and Brian Swindell, and a great uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Douglas’ extraordinary life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Friday April 9th from 5 -8 PM. Proper social distancing and mask wearing etiquette will be required.  Those attending his graveside services will gather at the funeral home on Saturday morning at 9 o’clock to process to Edgell Grove Cemetery for 10 AM.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Douglas’ name to the Brain Injury Association of America, www.biausa.org.
