Life’s Reflections

Mrs. Annie Lee Alcorn, 86, was born on January 22, 1935 in Weldon, Arkansas to Harrison and Mary Gravely.  Annie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of fourteen.  At twenty-nine she moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she met her husband, Nathaniel Alcorn.  The couple married on February 9, 1953 and had six children:  Shirley, Brenda, SFC Nathaniel, Jr., Mary, Melvin and David.

Mrs. Alcorn devoted her life to her family and Jesus Christ.  She was a Christian for over seventy-two years. And a member of Swope Park Church of Christ in Kansas City for many years.  Her unselfish, caring, and warm personality touched everyone she met.  She was such a loving and giving soul.

After raising her children, she received her high school diploma at the age of fifty-six.  Mrs. Alcorn was an entrepreneur for many years as a childcare provider, where she taught early life skills to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and other children in the community.

Mrs. Annie Lee Alcorn departed this earth in peace on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family.  She is preceded by her loving parents, Harrison and Mary Gravely, husband, Nathaniel Alcorn, daughter, Mary Williams, grandsons, Antonio Alcorn, Sr. and LaAron Porter, great grandson, Kemond Martin, brothers, Willie Gravely, Bobby Joe Gravely and Claude Gravely and sisters, Ruby Patterson, Loretta Wesley and Pearly Parker.

Mrs. Alcorn was the beloved matriarch of her family.  She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Shirley Alcorn, Brenda Stewart; sons, SFC Nathaniel Alcorn, Jr. and wife Gloria (Cup Cake) Alcorn, Melvin Alcorn, David Alcorn; siblings, Martha Roby, Clara Osborn, MaryAnn Neal; grandchildren, Herbert Alcorn, Jacqueline Rolf, Nathaniel Proctor, Terina Alcorn, Angella Prewitt and husband Darrell Prewitt, Melvin Alcorn and wife RaChonda Alcorn, Kelwin Alcorn, Theron Alcorn, Ezra Cruz; host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021, 11:00am at Swope Parkway Church of Christ. Interment Longview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00am-11:00am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.  Condolences may be shared on our website. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face coverings are required.
