Margaret Ida Parran Smith was born June 30, 1923, to the late Benjamin Franklin Parran and Mary Frances Gross. She left her earthly home on Resurrection Sunday, April 4, 2021. Margaret accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She graduated valedictorian at Central High School in Prince Frederick, Maryland and attended Hampton Institute (now Hampton University) in Hampton, Virginia. She later moved to Baltimore, MD where she worked several jobs until returning to Calvert County. Upon returning to Calvert County, Margaret worked at the residence of Sadie and Marguerite Gray which is now The Linden House and the current headquarters for the Calvert County Historical Society. In 1947, she married the late Rudolph Russell Smith and they had 4 children. In addition to her own, she cared for a countless number of children and family members during her lifetime. Until her illness, Margaret was a very active church member. She served as a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent, sponsored singing programs and was a member of the kitchen committee. She was known to give handmade cards (with a pack of Juicy Fruit gum) to loved ones and friends every year. Preceded in death are: her parents, her siblings: Ethel, Annie, Hannah, Evelyn, Ruth, Benjamin Jr., Frances, George, and Grace; her son Rev. Russell Smith Jr., grandson Ronald Prince, and great-granddaughter Mariah Hamilton. She was truly an amazing woman of God and will be missed by her surviving children – Kenneth Smith (Bettie), Ernestine Brooks, and Carol Stewart of Prince Frederick, MD; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
