Lenora Virginia McClanathan Obituary

Lenora Virginia McClanathan, 95, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021, at her home where she resided with her youngest daughter, Mary (McClanathan) Medas. Born November 26, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary (Green) Moser of Boonsboro, MD. Lenora was preceded in death by husband, Glenn Paul McClanathan, in 1993; brothers, Henry Moser, Claude Moser, and Charles Moser, of Hagerstown, MD; and sisters, Emma Cornell of Martinsburg, WV, and Anna Bywaters of Sykesville, MD; and one granddaughter, Wendi (McClanathan) Long of West Virginia. She is survived by sister-in-law, Mable Louise Shipley and her husband, Robert Shipley, of Clear Spring, MD; one son, Terry Lee McClanathan and wife, Joyce (Mullenix) McClanathan, of Smithsburg, MD; granddaughter, Staci McClanathan; grandchildren, Nicolai McClanathan and Autumn Lyons of Tennessee; grandson, James Eugene McClanathan of Indiana; daughters, Mary Medas of Hagerstown, MD, and Colleen “Sissy” Hurd and husband, Jesse “Sonny” Hurd Jr., of Berkeley Springs, WV; Grandson Jesse J.R. Hurd, III, and great grandchildren Alisha and Bella Hurd of Clear Spring, MD; granddaughter, Melanie Beth (Hurd) Rowe and husband, Michael, of Hagerstown, MD; great-granddaughters, Faith, Samantha, and Emma Rowe; Granddaughter, Misty Dawn (Hurd) Buhrman and husband, Matthew, of Berkeley Springs, WV; great-grandsons, Jonathan Buhrman of Berkeley Springs, WV, and Joshua Buhrman and wife, Emily; one great-great-grandson, Leon Dean Buhrman, of Martinsburg, WV; daughter, Debbie Giffin and husband, Dale, of Fairplay, MD; grandson, William Swope; great-grandsons, Christopher and Michael Swope; granddaughter, Carrie (Swope) Cross, of Mont Alto, PA; and multiple nieces and nephews. Lenora had worked as a housekeeper at the Hotel Alexander of Hagerstown, MD, El Cortez of Williamsport, MD, and the Venice Inn of Hagerstown, MD for a total of 45 years. She was a long-time member of the Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren in Hagerstown, MD. She loved going to church and loved her church family. Lenora loved to go on trips out West with her children when able. She loved the farm life and helping her son and his wife pick raspberries. She loved hunting wild mushrooms with her children as well as working in the yard and garden, weeding and mowing the lawn with the riding mower. Lenora never learned how to drive a vehicle though. Cowboy movies were her favorite TV shows. She loved playing dominos and coloring books. She was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Services will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 1pm, with Pastor Gabriel Dodd officiating and Pastor Rachel Black assisting. Burial will be held in Cedar Lawn Cemetery of Hagerstown, MD. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 6 to 8pm.
