Lawrence C. Bladecki Obituary

Lawrence Clifford Bladecki, age 102, passed away on Easter morning, Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Bay Shores Senior Center. He was born in Bay City on December 11, 1918 to the late Clifford and Louise (Mueller) Bladecki. On April 11, 1942 he married Mildred Michalsky, who preceded him in death on October 2, 2010. Together they had two daughters, Sandra Jean (Jim) Remensnyder and Diana Lynn (Randy) Broadfoot. Lawrence served as a medic in World War II, spending all of his time in the South Pacific. When he returned from duty he was employed by General Motors, from which he retired after more than 30 years. He was a member of UAW Local 362. Lawrence loved carpentry and took on projects to remodel his home and built furniture and toys for his grandchildren. He spent many summer hours planting and caring for his flowers and shrubs. He idled away the winter hours rearranging his tools and doing hundreds of word searches and jigsaw puzzles. He thrived on hocky games and baseball, both in person and on television. His grandchildren remind us of the countless walking trips to Czuba’s where they were told “you can only get on thing,” yet each would come home with several. He and his wife would travel whenever possible to visit friends in Missouri and Iowa and took trips with their children and grandchildren to Disney World, Mackinac Island, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Washington D.C. and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. In his later years he enjoyed the company of his beloved cat, Betsy, who was his constant companion. In addition to his daughters, and sons-in-law, Lawrence is survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer (Gary Falkenhagen) Broadfoot, Ryan Broadfoot, and Katherine Remensnyder. Along with his wife and parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters: Melvin Bladecki, Earlwood Bladecki, Kenneth Morse, Adeline Volders, Marie Rosinski, and Patricia Barnikow, and many nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Burton. A private Divine Liturgy will be held at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home with the Very Rev. Matthew-Peter Butrie presiding. Burial will be at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Those who so desire may make memorials to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church or a charity of their choice. No visiting hours are scheduled. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and other staff members of the Bay Shores Senior Center who gave Lawrence such wonderful care and showed such great compassion while he was a resident there. Also, they would like to thank special friends, Julianne Bailey and Debbie Wood, who devoted countless hours caring for him while he was still at home.
