Virginia Jones New York, New York Obituary

Virginia Jones

Virginia “Ginny” Lynette Jones was born on April 6, 1957 in Charleston, SC. She was the first of two children born to John and Rachel Jones. Ginny was called home on March 30, 2021 at the age of 63. She is now safe in the arms of Jesus. Ginny received her education in the New York City Public School System. She attended P.S. 184 for elementary school, Wadleigh for junior high school, and Fashion Industries for high school where she learned how to sew. She graduated and then went on to attend John Jay School of Law and later attended Catherine Gibbs School of Business. Ginny also worked in the NYC Dept. of Corrections as a Correction Officer. Ginny will always be known for cooking and feeding people. She was a “people person.” She also was the dancer of the family. She loved music. Her favorite song was “I’m coming around the rough side of the mountain” by Rev. F. C. Barnes. Ginny loved family; growing up she was very close with her cousins, and they loved to play games such as jumping rope. As an adult, Ginny loved to sit in her window and watch the people at the bus stop. Her favorite show was Law & order. Ginny always had a smile on her face which is why she was given the name “Sunshine.” Her favorite saying was “Thank God for life.” Ginny was preceded in death by her father, John. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving mother, Rachel; her two daughters, Dawn Lynnette and Faith; her three grandchildren, Raven, RJ “Biggs”and Katara; her brother, John Darryl; her maternal aunt Louise (aka Rich); her paternal aunts, Julie, Helen, Percille, Dorothy, Margaret, Kathleen and Whilhelmina; her first cousins, Rev. John Keith Carter, Jr. U.S.N. (retired) Chaplain Commander, Jackie, Red, Noni and KK; her niece, Anjauanay; her four nephews, John, Ahmad, Rashaan and Ali; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
