Josephine Tinaglia

Josephine Tinaglia passed on March 30, 2021 after 94 years of a full and vibrant life. Born to Joseph and Clara Esposito in 1927, in her childhood and early adult life she was called "Dolly” because of her innocent doll-like beauty. Later in life family and friends started calling her “Jo” at her request. Josephine was quite an athlete, playing softball and table tennis. She and her late sister Nancy (Dagostino) won first place in the Chicago Park District table tennis competition. In 1948 she married Michael Leo Tinaglia and had three sons, Michael Lee (Lucia), Richard (Terry) and Paul (Kathy). Josephine and sons lost husband and father Michael in 1971. Facing the challenge of losing her husband with three young sons, Josephine emerged as a role model for many woman successfully managing and selling her husband’s hair salon in Glencoe and single-handedly raising her often rambunctious and periodically wayward sons. Her singular child rearing efforts succeeded with Michael becoming an attorney, Richard an insurance executive and Paul a talented chef. The boys attained adulthood and moved out of the home but they remained close to Josephine spending decades celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter at mother’s home in Park Ridge. Summers provided Josephine, sons, daughter in laws, grandchildren and extended family and friends many, many summers of outdoor fun by the pool, a continuing focal point for the growing Tinaglia Familia clan. Josephine also spent several happy years with her companion Dr. Richard Wells. In addition to her three sons, Josephine is survived by seven grandchildren whom she loved and cherished: Laura (David) Morando, Lisa (Richard) Anderson, Elena, Michael (Lauren), Liliana (Joshua) Uhe, Anna and Nicholas, and great grandson Alexander Michael Morando. Josephine is also survived by sisters in laws Ann Tinaglia and Bess Tinaglia in addition to numerous nephews and nieces. Josephine was predeceased by her husband Michael, her sister Nancy, her brother John, her brothers in law, Vincent, Joseph, Anthony [Tinaglia], Anthony [Dagostino], Charles, and her sisters in law, Jeanette, Constance, and Rose. Josephine will be remembered by all for her warmth, generosity, good humor, authenticity, outgoing nature, happy spirit, and wit. Due to a possible COVID exposure within the family, services for Josephine have been canceled. We will celebrate Josephine’s life at a memorial gathering at a future date.
