Barbara H. Frankland Obituary

Barbara H. Frankland was called home to her Lord in the early morning of Saturday, April 3, 2021.

Born in Erwin, Tennessee on April 20, 1938, to Olga and William Helton, she was the youngest of nine children, Ernest, Roy, William, Irene, Kenneth, Louise, Juanita, and Zora.  After graduating from Unicoi County High School in 1956, Barbara moved to Washington, D.C. to work at the FBI. She was united in marriage to Harry J. Frankland on March 25, 1960 in Washington, D.C. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2000. They were happily married for forty years.

Barbara worked several years with the FBI until the birth of her son in 1960. Throughout the 60's and 70s, she worked part-time for Young Americans for Freedom as an office administrator/bookkeeper. A devout Christian, she volunteered at First Baptist Church of Capitol Heights as their bookkeeper for many years. She and Harry owned several businesses together, including Marlton Video store and Barbara's Collectibles, a flea market business. She loved crafts, sewing (especially for her granddaughters), Southern Gospel and Blue Grass music, and catching up with friends and family. Although she lived in the Washington, D.C. area for sixty-four years, she never lost her southern accent or love for Erwin, TN.

She is survived by her son, Randall Frankland and his lovely wife, Christine; three loving granddaughters, Miranda Makary and her husband Adly, Catherine Frankland,  Alisa Rivera and her husband, Justin; two great-grandchildren, Carmelo Santino and Martha Anne (due in May); one cherished sister, Zora Andrews; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is loved and missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse.
