Juanita Ellouise Hodel Bloss

Oldtown—Juanita Ellouise Hodel Bloss, 96, of Oldtown passed away at Sterling Care Frostburg Village on April 1, 2021. Born in Cumberland, MD, on April 3, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Mary A. (Leasure) and Lundy T. Kinser. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, John W. Hodel and Robert Bloss; sons, Michael Hodel, Patrick Hodel, and Leon Hodel; daughters, Kathy Turner, and Barbara Rodriquez. Juanita was also preceded by death by several brothers and sisters. Juanita attended Oldtown School. She was employed at the Allegany County Board of Education in the maintenance department. She also cleaned individual homes. Juanita was a very hard worker who did many chores around the home and garden. She loved playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, and playing “Mother May I” and “Green and Red Light” with her grandchildren. She was also fond of baking homemade bread. Juanita is survived by her children, Mary Ritchie and husband, Perry, Marie Spence and Rick, Arlene Garris and husband, Frank, Rosa Leedy and husband, Joseph, Linda Hodel, Timmy Hodel and wife, Judy, Mark Hodel and wife, Victoria, John Hodel, Jr., many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and sisters. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, from 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 11 A.M. Burial will take place in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Shrout, Frank Garris, Dr. William Shrout, Jr., Joe Leedy, Timothy Hodel, Jr., and Ronnie Kidwell. In lieu of sending flowers, those wishing to honor Juanita’s memory may do so by making contributions toward her funeral expenses.
