Joseph V. Ciaburri 91, of North Branford formerly of Woodbridge and Palm Beach, FL beloved husband of 69 years to Mary Grace Calandro Ciaburri passed away on March 31, 2021 in CT. Hospice. Loving father of Deborah Williams of Vineyard Haven, MA Pamela (David) Snetro of Branford and Michael Ciaburri of Guilford. Grandfather of Davida and Dana Williams and Derek Snetro. Brother of Gloria Caprio and Dino (Linda) Ciaburri all of Orange and the late Marie Milazzo. Joe was born in New Haven on May 3, 1929 son of the late Michele and Anna Mazza Ciaburri. Joe was the Founder, President & CEO of The Bank of New Haven in New Haven, CT. beginning in 1979. The Bank of New Haven was the first new bank to open in Connecticut since the great depression. Joe was also the Co-Founder, Chairman & CEO of Southern Connecticut Bancorp in New Haven, CT beginning in 2001. His career as a commercial banker in Connecticut spanned approximately 45 years. He is considered to be one of the most noteworthy and premier commercial bankers in the history of The State of CT. Other accomplishments include the following: The first Italian American to be named the President of The New Haven Symphony Orchestra; Member of The Economic Advisory Board under President Ronald Reagan; Member of The Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Bank Administration Institute in Chicago, Illinois, Past President of the Connecticut Community Bankers Association, Member of The Board of Directors of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, Owner of the New Haven Elms Professional Basketball Team in the Eastern League, General Manager of the World Champion Columbus Bears Softball Team, Color Announcer for ABC and WNHC Radio for Saturday college football. Joe's plethora of additional accomplishments in commercial banking, professional and amateur sports, and civic awards are too numerous to include in this written testimony. Joe also earned his undergraduate degree from SCSU, attended the Master's Degree Program at Wesleyan University where he was an Averill Harriman Scholar, was a Graduate of The Stonier School of Banking and attended the Yale SOM. Joe served his country faithfully in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Relatives and friends are invited to go DIRECTLY to St. John Bosco Parish at St. Mary's Church (Branford) to celebrate A Mass of Christian Burial TUESDAY morning at 10:00.
