Estelene Myers

95 year old Mrs. Estelene, loving known as Doodle” Myers died at 11:14 a.m. Wednesday morning March 31, 2021 at her Fite Avenue East home surrounded by her family under the tender care of Kindred Hospice. Mrs. Myers health had been declining the last few months. Saturday afternoon April 3rd funeral services were conducted from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Burton officiating. Burial followed beside her husband of almost fifty years in the Garden of the Cross at the Smith County Memorial Gardens. One of two daughters, she was born Willie Estelene Huffines in the Jackson County section of the Funns Branch Community and was the daughter of the late Letcher Vester “Bue” Huffines who died January 15, 1986 at the age of 84 and Kate Thomas Huffines who died December 1, 1988 at the age of 85. Her sister, Grady Lee Huffines Woodard, who was the former owner operator of the former Draper-Darwin Department Store in Carthage with her husband Hubert, died at the age of 86 on Sunday evening May 23, 2010. On August 18, 1945 she was united in marriage to Brooks Bend Community native George Napolean “Horton” Myers. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1995 at the age of 79. Mrs. Myers had been employed at the former Neda Lamp Co. in Carthage as well as the Carthage Shirt Factory and had served as a volunteer at the former Smith County Health Care Center in Carthage. Mrs. Myers was saved at an early age and was united with the former Ensors Chapel United Methodist Church near her childhood home. At the time of her death she had been a longtime member of the Carthage United Methodist Church. She is survived by one son, Blythe Myers and wife Linda of South Carthage; grandson, Steven Myers and wife Mandi also of South Carthage; step-granddaughter, Denise Young of Sunbright, Tennessee; nine great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kailee Myers, Jobie Wright Angel and Jessiny George, Ryan, Lacey, Trey and Tara Davis; Mrs. Estelene’s sister Grady’s two daughters, Virginia Wodard Moss and Faye Woodard Huffine.
