The memorial service for Janice Freudenthal, 86, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 2:00pm, Saturday, April 24, 2021 at First Lutheran Church, Britton, SD with Pastor Terrill Sorensen officiating. The service will be livestreamed with burial at Britton Cemetery. Janice died Wednesday, March 31, after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street is in charge of arrangements. Janice Ruth Roehr was born March 14, 1935, to Herman and Sue (Hagen) Roehr in Britton, SD. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from Britton High School. Janice worked as a telephone operator. On March 18, 1955, Janice was united in marriage to Claus Henry ‘Hank’ Freudenthal in Britton, SD. After marriage, they moved to Seattle and Yakima Washington where she continued her work for the phone company. After Hank’s service and education, they moved to North Dakota where they lived in Mandan and Bismarck. In Bismarck, Janice continued her career with the phone company. In 1964, they moved to Mobridge, SD. Janice worked as a bookkeeper for Mobridge Livestock where she had many good friends. She also worked for Houck Trucking. She was an avid baker and was known for her numerous Christmas goodies including Krumkake and Rosettes, as well as her popcorn cakes she made for bazaars. Janice was named “Cook of the Week” in the Mobridge Tribune. She even had a cookbook published, “The Freudenthal Family Favorites,” created by SPAM (Susie, Pam, Angie, and Mom). Janice was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school classes and knitted prayer shawls. She was a member of the Mobridge Hospital Auxiliary, the Mobridge Moose Club, Mobridge American Legion Auxiliary, and the Mobridge Senior Citizen’s Center. In 2008, they moved to Aberdeen, SD. Janice was a member of First Lutheran Church in Britton, SD. She enjoyed square dancing in her younger years and could play piano by ear. She also liked fishing with Hank. She loved going to casinos, traveling, and going on bus trips and cruises with her husband and friends. She did not let her macular degeneration slow her down. Janice was Secretary for the state chapter of Epilepsy Foundation of America. Janice’s greatest joy came from being with her family and friends. She lived by the acronym, F.R.O.G.: Fully Rely On God. Grateful for having shared Janice’s life are daughters: Susie (Mike) Roshau, Pam (Bob) Main, Angie (Todd) Garry, and Noreen (Jerry) Lehrkamp; grandchildren: Eric (Catie) Roshau, Jill Roshau (Preston Myrum), Derek (Ashley) Krueger, Russ (Lexi) Garry, Josh Garry, and Megan Garry: great-grandchildren: Cayden Knodel, Caleb Roshau, Hunter Myrum, Maddie Myrum, Baby Krueger, River Garry, Vivian Garry, and Micah Garry; sister-in-law Elynor Roehr; brothers-in-law: Jerry (Janelle) Freudenthal and Jim (Joan) Freudenthal; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Janice in death are parents Herman & Susie Roehr; husband Henry “Hank” Freudenthal; in-laws HC & Lenore Freudenthal; siblings: Myron “Bud” (Gladys) Roehr, Robert (Maxine) Roehr, Bonnie (Jasper) Langager, Raymond (Orine) Roehr, Delvin Roehr, Gene Roehr, sister-in-law Marj Freudenthal, brother-in-law Richard “Dick” Freudenthal, and good friend Gracie Fischer. The family prefers memorials be made to Aspire, Aberdeen, the Mobridge Senior Center, Mobridge American Legion, or First Lutheran Church of Britton.
