George Frederick Mitchell Obituary

George Frederick Mitchell, beloved husband and father, passed away into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, March 27th. He is survived by his wife, Mary, daughter, Lisa Mitchell, daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Tom VanHammen, adopted grandchildren, Katelyn McGill and Emily Schmidt. He is also survived by a large extended family and his church family at Akron First Assembly of God, which he attended for over 70 years.

A kind and loving soul, George loved gardens, especially roses, hiking, travel, golf, children and time with friends and family. He was a World War II veteran.  George worked for the Pennsylvania/PennCentral/Amtrak/Conrail Railroad for 38 years and for the Ohio Store Fixture.  He was a volunteer for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for many years.

Visitation will be held at Cox- McNulty Funeral Home, 1376 High Street, Wadsworth, Ohio 44281 on Saturday, April 3rd at 1 pm followed by a service at 2 pm officiated by the Rev. Roger Larrison.  A Celebration of his Life will be held on his birthday, July 18, 2021. Details to come later.
