Michael S. Borys Obituary

THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE CARING FOR AND ASSISTING THE FAMILY OF MICHAEL S. BORYS Loved his family, his career of caring and the outdoors OAKVILLE - Michael Stanley Borys age 67, passed away unexpectedly March 28, 2021. He was the husband of Denise (Tamosaitis) Borys. Michael was born on January 7, 1954 in Bridgeport the son of the late Michael I and Cecilia (Knapp) Borys. Michael proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy and then graduated from Western Connecticut University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduation, Mike worked at CCC Cheshire for two years as a Corrections Nurse Grade I. From 1985 to 1996 Mike functioned in the Major Med area, Trauma Area and Triage areas of St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. He made many lasting friendships there, and always felt fortunate that his career was something he truly enjoyed and felt passionate about. From 1996 to 2014 Mike worked in the Adult Emergency Department at Yale New Haven Hospital making his way up to Clinical Nurse, Level III. The last five years of his career were spent in the ED at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Mike was always impressed with the fact that even after having a long career in ED nursing, he learned new skills there, and found the work challenging. Mike was an outdoorsman, and all who know him know how much he loved hunting. The one thing Mike would consider as unfinished business, would be not getting into Maine’s Big Buck Club. He enjoyed his yearly trips to Maine and started counting the days until the season started beginning August 1. As a long- time member of Bristol Fish and Game Club, many hours were spent on the target range. Mike was a communicant of St John the Evangelist Parish in Watertown and worked on the Building and Grounds Ministry. Teaching TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) was very important to Mike, and he spent many hours prepping for his lectures. Mike’s great clinical skills, his fierce love and loyalty to friends and family were integral to who he was. His final act of generosity was to be an organ donor. His trademark aluminum cup and Grateful Dead tee shirt were with him always. Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memories besides his devoted wife of 42 years, Denise, are his son Aaron Borys and his partner Christine Romaniello, his daughter Diana Borys and her husband Mark Gehring, his sister Patricia Borys Carne and her husband John Carne, his brother-in-law Thomas Hemenway, and many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a great niece. Among the nieces are Jay Hemenway, Kelly Hemenway, and Sadie Hemenway Chizinski (great niece). His nephews include Daniel Carne, Michael Carne and Keith Hemenway. Mike will be missed by his closest friends: Dr Brian Sargent, Charles Judd, Philip Poirier, and Thomas Wilson. He is also deeply missed by his cat Daisy who totally captured his heart with her adoration. Due to COVID19 there will be no Public Services at this time. A celebration of life will follow at a time to be determined later. To honor Mike’s memory and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Boy Scouts of America or New England Donor Services Inc. O’Neill Funeral Home has been honored to care for the Borys family during this most difficult time. Memories endure only if you share them so you are encouraged to leave words of comfort, a personal message or flower gift with Michael’s family on his tribute page at www.oneillfuneralhome.com.
