<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;">Mary Ruth &ldquo;Cookie&rdquo; Pointer, age 88, of Linn, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.</span></span></strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;">Cookie was born on March 14, 1933, in Linn, a daughter to the late Bernard and Agnes (Thoenen) Voss.</span></span></strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;">Cookie was a 1951 graduate of Linn High School.</span></span></strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;">On November 17, 1951, she was united in marriage to Norman E. Pointer in Linn.&nbsp; Norman preceded her in death on July 1, 1981.</span></span></strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;">Cookie and her husband owned and operated Pointers Tavern and Pointer&rsquo;s Caf&eacute; in Linn for several years. She also worked for different factories but retired from Unilever to take care of her mother.</span></span></strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;">Cookie&rsquo;s greatest joy in life was taking care of her family.&nbsp; She enjoyed fixing them a meal or just sitting around visiting and watching the grandchildren play.&nbsp; When she found time to relax, she liked to play bingo, bowling, go gambling, shopping, finding a deal at a garage sale, working in her gardens of flowers or vegetables and she was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.</span></span></strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;">Mary is survived by her four sons, Bernard &ldquo;Duke&rdquo; Pointer and his wife Marsha of Ayers, MA., Gary Pointer, Steve Pointer and Tim Pointer and his wife Carolyn all of Linn; two daughters, Jeri Kemp and her husband Kenny and Lori Iven and her husband J.P. all of Linn; a son-in-law, Robert &ldquo;Spike&rdquo; Helmig of Linn; 16 grandchildren, Andy Helmig, Jennifer Heimericks, Molly Helmig, Seth Pointer, LeeAnne Zarella, Sara Threadgill, Kyle Miller, Brittany Pointer, Dylan Pointer, Rita Kemp, Tyler Iven, Jami Iven, Christa Warren, Dustin Maasen and Matthew Pointer; 22 great grandchildren with two more on the way; two brothers, Bobby Voss and his wife Jean of Jefferson City and Roger Voss and his wife Agnes of Linn; two sisters, Bernie Mantle-Mangels of Linn, Betsy Edwards of Jefferson City; two sister-in-law, Darleen Schaefer of Linn and Agnes L. Voss of Columbia; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.</span></span></strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;">In addition to her parents and spouse of twenty-nine years, Mary was preceded in death by; a daughter, Norma Lee Helmig; a son, Terry E. Pointer; a grandson, Taylor W. Mary Ruth “Cookie” Pointer, age 88, of Linn, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.

Cookie was born on March 14, 1933, in Linn, a daughter to the late Bernard and Agnes (Thoenen) Voss.

Cookie was a 1951 graduate of Linn High School.

On November 17, 1951, she was united in marriage to Norman E. Pointer in Linn.  Norman preceded her in death on July 1, 1981.

Cookie and her husband owned and operated Pointers Tavern and Pointer’s Café in Linn for several years. She also worked for different factories but retired from Unilever to take care of her mother.
