Una "Colie" Rae Roach

On March 25, 2021, Una Rae (Edmondston) Roach had God's arms surround her and lift her to heaven to be with Him. She went peacefully and with no struggle. At the time she was living at Beehive Homes in Clovis. She was born on July 10, 1927 in Muleshoe, Texas to Raymond Edmondston and Mary (Yoder) Edmondston. When she was born her mother was surprised to learn that she had been carrying twins who were both successfully born without a problem. Since the couple had not expected to have twins they were at a loss on what to name them so they gave them temporary names. Una was Colie and her twin, Eunice, was Blonde. The twins had two older sisters and then came their brother.

Her early years were spent in Muleshoe where she went to school until the family moved to St. Vrain, NM during the great depression which made for difficult times for the family. It was reported in a publication by Curry County High Plains Historical Foundation that Una's father had to leave the family home and travel far distances to make enough money to take care of his family during this time. Una and her siblings made new friends and went to school until the St. Vrain Schools consolidated with Melrose Schools which meant they had to change schools and attend Melrose Schools. It was while in High School in Melrose that Una “Colie” met the love of her life, Lee Charles Roach. According to the publication from the Curry County High Plains Historical Foundation, it was during a softball game at Ranchvale, NM that the couple met and they began to court shortly after they met. Lee was a survivor of the Bataan death march having been kept in a prison camp for three and a half years. He was older than Una "Colie” but they fell deeply in love and after she graduated from High School they were married on May 12, 1946 in a double ceremony. She and her twin married two brothers that same day and went on a honeymoon together.

The couple joined First Baptist Church in Clovis, NM in 1946 and were very active members. Una, “Colie", took care of the children in the nursery, was a member of the bereavement group, handed out clothes and food to people once a week and joined the WMU at church which was a Baptist missionary group for the women. Currently, the quilt that the group made hangs in the church's Heritage Room. Both Lee and Una, Colie, remained active members until their passing.

Una, “Colie”, was always a kind, loving person who made people feel at ease and cared for. She had a warm smile with a single dimple and also had a strong faith in God which was evident throughout her life. She was a good and faithful servant who loved to share God's teachings in the bible with others. She always saw the good in life and people and never complained. She did love to play games such as dominoes and was very competitive and could get upset if she was losing. An aspect of her life that she truly loved were her boys, Darryl and Gerryl and eventually the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The couple settled on a farm near St. Vrain in 1964 until 1975. Una, “Colie”, loved God first and her family a strong second. She and Lee took great pleasure in sharing God's word and spending family time with the boys. The boys were taught a strong work ethic but there was never any shortage of fun to be had. The family loved to Fish, take trips to the mountains like Ruidoso, and Platero, Colorado.

In 1975 the couple moved to Clovis to retire. Being inactive was never an option. They pulled their various travel trailers all over the country with the Good Sam's Club. While in the club Una, “Colie”, did a lot of crafts. But mostly it was the fellowship with the others in the club they enjoyed. They also took trips to Branson, MO for twenty years in a row, took their travel trailer to Platero, CO and to Ruidoso, NM.

On January, 20, 2011 Una, “Colie”, lost the love of her life. His passing was hard but as always Una saw the positives. Her faith allowed her know that she would see him again. She lived in the family home for three years and then moved into Wheatfield Senior Living Community in January of 2014. As always, she made many friends and helped many people who felt alone by sharing her love of God and joy filled spirit. She remained at Wheatfields until three weeks before her passing when she moved to Beehive Homes in Clovis where she could see her family on a daily basis.

Una, "Colie, was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mary Edmondston, her sisters Beulah, Arline, twin Eunice, “Blonde”, and brother Marvin, and Husband Lee.

Una, “Colie”, is survived by her sons Darryl and Irene of Clovis, Gerryl and Deanna of Melrose, 4 grandchildren, Carrie Richardson, Kelli Thrasher, Wesley Roach, Lance Roach, 14 great grandchildren Dylan Richardson, Dalyn Richardson, Jaylynn Richardson, Hailey Mascaro, Jack Mascaro, Aidan Roach, Katelyn Roach, Tiffany Roach, Kimberly Roach, Trevor Roach, Colby Roach, Bella Roach, Abby Roach, and Emma Roach and many friends at Wheatfields, and at Beehive Homes of Clovis.

We would like to thank Beehive Homes of Clovis for the love and care that was given during her short illness. Also, we would like to thank Plains Regional Hospice for the wonderful care and love that was given to Una, “Colie", during her time of need.

A visitation will be held for Mrs. Roach on Monday, March 29, and Tuesday, March 30, 2021 for 2 hours from 2:00PM to 4:00PM on both Monday and Tuesday at Steed Todd Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 10:00AM MST at First Baptist Church in Clovis, NM.
