James Everett Shawver

James Everett Shawver, 80, of Grassy Meadows, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at his home, following a long illness.  Born November 17, 1940, in Grassy Meadows, he was the son of the late Roy Bluford and Icy Mable Cadle Shawver. Jim was a faithful member of the Sewell Valley Baptist Church, Rainelle.  He worked as a heavy equipment operator on road construction.  His real love was farming and he enjoyed hunting.  Jim was a loyal friend and neighbor.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers Clell Shawver and Gordon Cadle; and two sisters Helen Gillespie (John) and Kathryn Gillespie (Cledith).  Survivors include his devoted wife of 60 years, Thelma Birchfield Shawver; son Jimmy Shawver (Michelle) of Grassy Meadows; two daughters Pamela Rose of Beckley and Deborah Bennett of Grassy Meadows; two brothers Charles Shawver (Betty) of Grassy Meadows and William Shawver (Carolyn) of Norwalk, Ohio; three sisters Jean Shawver of Alexandria Virginia, Mary Green (Clyde) of Ohio, and Rita Fitzwater (Roger) of Collins Ohio; two grandsons Brandon Bennett and Logan Shawver; six granddaughters Jenna Vestal (Garrett), Lauren Phillips, Kelsi Andrews (Shawn), Autumn Stump (Joshua), Chloe Bennett, and JoAnna Willis (Jeremy); four great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at Sewell Valley Baptist Church, Rainelle, with Pastor Fred Fryar officiating.  Burial will follow in the Shawver Family Cemetery, Grassy Meadows, with Pastor Mike Teubert officiating.  Friends may call one hour before the service from 10 – 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers please donate to Sewell Valley Baptist Church Missions.
