Charles David Gimbel was born February 4, 1940, in Hazelton, ND, the son of Milbert and Myrtle (Beseler) Gimbel. He was baptized August 4, 1940 and confirmed June 27, 1954 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hazelton. Charles attended Hazelton School and graduated from Hazelton High School in 1958. He was active in Jr. High and High School basketball and also enjoyed baseball and bowling. Chuck's father owned and operated the Standard Service Station in Hazelton, thus Chuck was brought up working as a station attendant with his brothers. Chuck remained at home following graduation to work at the gas station. On September 21, 1959, Chuck married his high school sweetheart, Gladys Wohl, of Linton at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hazelton. On February 27, 1964, a daughter, Torchy Lynn, was born to that union. Chuck purchased the business from his father and continued operating the Standard/Amoco Station until selling it in 1980. From 1981 until 1984 he worked for Cenex/Farmers Union Oil Company. He was asked to help out at the Amoco Station for a few months until the new owner could catch up on his work. Those few months turned into about 13 years, at which time Chuck decided to retire. He lived his entire life in Hazelton, with the exception of a three month stay in Hillsboro, OR. His home in Hazelton was ½ block away from the service station and was his comfort until he passed away. Chuck met Susan (Biesheuvel) Slagh in 1985 and they were married on (8-8-88) August 8, 1988, in Corvallis, OR. They continued to live at his home in Hazelton. He was blessed with three grandchildren, who lived only four blocks away. His life was complete and he lived happily in his home until his passing. He enjoyed flying his plane, fishing and bowling with his friends and as a team. Chuck is survived by his wife, Susan, Hazelton; one daughter and son-in-law, Torchy and Dean Weiss, Hazelton, a step-son, Jeffery Slagh, Hampton, GA; grandchildren, Mirysta (Nick) Reamann, Braddock, ND, Cassidy Weiss, Mandan, ND, Evan Weiss & fiancé Kaitlin Keeler of Mandan, ND; great granddaughter, Evolette Lynn Reamann; one sister and brother-in-law, June and Robert Storment, Phoenix, AZ; their close friend, Gladys Jakobsen, Bismarck; brothers and sisters-in-law, Delores Hardy, Bismarck, Bonnie (Alfred) Trautman, Camas, WA, Roger (Joann) Biesheuvel, Gillette, WY, Daniel Biesheuvel, Bismarck, Mary Nieuwsma (Mike Taylor), Strasburg, ND and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
