Tom Nervig

Thomas Nervig, 76 of Nevada, died Thursday, March 25, 2021, at his home in Nevada from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was born September 24, 1944, in Des Moines, the son of Oley and Gertrude Nervig. He graduated from Ankeny High School in 1961 and attended the University of Iowa and Drake University. Tom was united in marriage to Susan Kay Sampson on November 3, 1990, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Tom’s most cherished accomplishments were his children, grandchildren, and marrying Sue, the love of his life. Tom had a fulfilling career at Donnelley Marketing and retired with Nikkel and Associates in Ames as the Human Resources Manager. Tom was an active member of his church and he selflessly donated blood for over 40 years. He enjoyed traveling the country with Sue, visiting 49 of the 50 states, seeing all 99 Iowa Courthouses, and going on many cruises together. Tom enjoyed staying active, whether it be biking, camping, or boating. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and had an infectious laugh. Tom was a great husband, dad, and papa to his grandchildren, always supporting his family in everything they did. Tom is survived by his wife, Susan of Nevada; his children: Tasha (Jeff) Burnett of Goodyear, AZ, Kirk Nervig of Camdenton, MO, Eric Nervig of Phoenix, AZ, Bret Sampson of Nevada, Annette (Jason) Adams of Ankeny and Brian (Julie) Moussalli of Ankeny; and his grandchildren: Courtney, Cassidy and Connor Burnett, Tyler, Sydney and Lyndsey Nervig, Brandon and Connor Sampson, Jacob and Gracyn Adams, Dominic and Brecken Moussalli, and one granddaughter on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister (Joyce) in childhood. A private family service will be held. Burial will be at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mary Greeley Hospice or Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
