Mary Louise Hepp, age 90, of Battle Creek, Michigan, died December 11, 2015 at Bronson Hospice Residence, leaving behind her four daughters, Mary Jo Blackwood of St. Louis, MO; Cathy Smith of Battle Creek, Lou Ann Hepp and Beth Herrild, both of Seattle, Washington, eleven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Born on a farm in Indiana, she had no idea that when she married her handsome Army bombardier, she would embark on a remarkable journey. Over the course of her 71-year marriage to Joseph Hepp, who predeceased her in April of this year, she would live in 30 houses, several cities and states, two foreign countries, and have four daughters. While both Joe and Mary considered it a privilege that she could stay home and care for her daughters, Mary also spread her wings, literally, by taking flying lessons and soloing in an airplane at age 60, becoming an accomplished artist, and taking on many other challenges. Besides her art, she was an accomplished cook and seamstress, and enjoyed golf, bridge, gardening, and her family. Having taken nurse's aide training, she nursed her sister-in-law through the final stages of her illness, and found great satisfaction volunteering in several hospitals near where she lived, including Marshall and St. George, Utah. At the end of her life, she missed her Joe and wanted to be with him. Her daughters wish her peace and eternal love. No memorial is planned.
