Selma Mayer Obituary

Selma Gladys Norstebon was born in Roseau County, Minnesota on June 11, 1923 to Martin and Emma (Nordgaarden) Norstebon. One of 10 Children of which she was the oldest. Only one sibling (Stanley Norstebon) is still living. Selma grew up on a farm so she was used to hard work all of her life. She took care of her grandma when she was 16 and was so very patient. On May 20, 1950 Selma was united in marriage with Ruben Nyhus. Together they made their home on a farm outside of Henning near where Ruben grew up. On May 4, 1951 Arlene was born. A son Michael was born July of 1952 but died a few days later from RH factor complications. Selma was active in the Good Shepard Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the Ladies Aid. When Ruben passed away on September 2, 1971, she moved into Henning. Selma was employed at 1st National Bank and did many odd jobs to keep herself self-sufficient. She married Herb Mayer in March of 1973. Selma loved to travel and anytime anybody said lets go for a ride she was ready in 5 minutes. She and Herb moved into the Clement Manor in the late ‘80s. After Herb passed away she remained in the Clement Manor where her Mother and sister, Grace were living at the time. In August of 2000 made her home with her daughter, Arlene in Tooele Utah. Her bright smile and cute little giggle would brighten up a room. She would help anyone and give them her last dime. Selma is survived by her daughter, Arlene (Bruce) Lange; 2 grandchildren Susan Lange Bosley Children Alexander and Kevin. Grandson Eric Lange (Christy) children Payton, Michael, Mary and Jeremy; many other relatives and a host of friends.
