Joseph Miguel De Jesús passed away peacefully on 03/18/2021 at 74 in his home, in Winterville, North Carolina.
His parents were Dolores “Lola” Garcia Molina and Jose “Cheo” De Jesus Quiñones, from Manati and Morovis, Puerto Rico.
He had two siblings, Ileana Ferrao De Jesús and Audeliz Matzker De Jesús.
His birth name was Jose Miguel De Jesús Garcia, later changing it. He was born in Manati, Puerto Rico on 10/23/1946. Growing up he was known as “Chemiguel”, and many knew him as “Joey”.
Joseph graduated high school and became a musician. Music was his life, identity and passion. He was a rock star, a man of fascinating stories. He was able to play different musical instruments, compose, and sing. He could shred a guitar like no one’s business. His vocals were on point and he was an all around beast of a self-taught musician.
Music was his calling, and he never tuned it out. A hippie and rock star, he was full of love, caring, and understanding.
Music was his soul, his blood was part music. He was all about the complexity of it all, the artistry.
At an early age he was influenced by gospel and his latin roots. He lead a cappella groups in Puerto Rico and later he was a member of bands like The Peepl, Native Sun, and Banchee in the states. Banchee was a psychedelic rock band that had 2 albums on Atlantic Records. His artistic talent led him to create many projects in different genres of music, both in English and Spanish, and other types of art as well. He wrote complete albums within Gospel, Country, RNB, and rock genres.
A researcher by nature, Joseph was a man of deep thought and understanding that let him to a never-ending learning process. To his family and friends, he was the epitome of love and peace. He had a beautiful soul, an angel sent by God with the same demeanor as his mother. Joseph touched many lives in very special ways.
Joseph is survived by his beloved Ana Fermin, his daughters, and his grandchildren.
