Irene J. Guske West Winfield Irene J. Guske 86, of West Winfield passed away peacefully on Friday, March 19, 2021 at the Abraham House in Rome. She was born on September 29, 1934 in Jersey City, NJ a daughter of the late William and Frieda (Lemke) Kolster On September 27, 1958 in New Jersey she was united in marriage to Horst Guske a blessed union of over 39 years filled with much love and mutual devotion. Mr. Guske passed away on July 21, 1997. She along with her husband were foster parents, opening their home to over 160 children over a 20 year span. This was a labor of love for Irene. She truly enjoyed the opportunity to provide for so many children in need. She attended Federated Church in West Winfield. Irene was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who cherished the time that she spent with her family, especially her adored children and grandchildren. She loved to go on Bus trips to the casino with her friends. She will be sadly missed. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Stewart) Goldstein of New Brunswick, NJ, Thomas Guske of West Winfield, Kathy (Chris) Jones of West Winfield, Charles (Judy) Guske of West Winfield, and George Guske of West Winfield. She also leaves her grandchildren, Allison (James) Buchillon, Scott (Theresa) Goldstein, Jessica Hilton, Stephen (Guerin) Jones, Stacy Guske, Stephanie (Steve) Jones and Samantha (Mike) Cole, also 12 great grandchildren, many very special friends, and last but not least her beloved canine companion “Penny”. She was predeceased by a son Richard Guske on September 25, 1994. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of the Abraham House in Rome for the wonderful care complemented by true compassion that was given to Mrs. Guske during her illness. Funeral services will be on Monday March 29, 2021 at 6:00 PM at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. 365 West Main St. in West Winfield with Pastor Ken McKenzie of the Federated Church officiating. Interment will be later in the spring in the Unadilla Forks Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday March 29, 2021 prior to the service from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
