Clarence John Kopp
John Kopp, 94, Boise, ID passed away December 11, in his home surrounded by his four children. John was born September 21, 1921 in Livingston, MT to Clarence Arthur Kopp and Nina Clark Kopp. John's life was characterized by personal service; as a family physician to the Vale, OR community for thirty-eight years, 1954-1992 and as a Captain in the US Navy Reserve, 1950-1981. John graduated from La Grande High School and attended Eastern Oregon College for two years and received an undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon. He graduated from U of O Medical School in 1947. John Kopp and Jane McGarvey were married in 1946. The couple is survived by their four children; Dr. James R. Kopp (Lesley), La Grande, Jancy Kopp Grandgirard, Lausanne Switzerland, Julie Kopp Duthie (Dave, deceased), Bellingham, WA and Janet Kopp Chandler (Dennis), Eugene and four grandchildren. Outside his service to community, John loved the old west and simple western ways. He enjoyed farming, raising horses and horse-packing trips deep into the Eagle Cap Wilderness. His family had a tradition of living several weeks in teepees during the summer at "Kopp Camp" on the Minam River. In addition he was an avid skier. He made several winter sojourns to his favorite spot, Sun Valley. A graveside service will be held in Summerville Cemetery on Thursday, December 17 at 2 p.m. All are welcome to join the family in this brief celebration of his life.
