Geraldine "Gerri" Gertrude Stafford

Geraldine "Gerri" Stafford, 88, of Waverly, died Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Western Home Community-Elizabeth Martin Center, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Gerri was born January 11, 1929, in rural Bremer County the daughter of Guy and Elizabeth (Kephart) Scoles. She attended rural schools until 5th grade then attended Shell Rock High School, graduating in May of 1947. On July 10, 1947, Gerri was united in marriage to Everett "Ev" Stafford at the First Methodist Church in Waverly. Over the years she worked at Fred's Super Value and the Waverly Bowl Inn for 26 years. She started bowling in 1952 and continued her hobby for 59 years. She served as Past President, Secretary and Treasurer of Swing Shift bowling league for over 35 years. She would go on to be inducted into the Waverly Bowling Hall of Fame. She also enjoyed golfing, and was a member of the C.A.R.D. Hole in One Club. She was a member of the Waverly V.F.W. #2208 for many years. Gardening was also an important part of Gerri's life. The best times of her life included time spent with her family-especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gerri is survived by four children, Dennis (Roxann) Stafford of Waverly, Michael (Susie) Stafford of Winthrop, Sharon (Al) Gielau of Waverly, and Scott (Chris) Stafford of Waverly, thirteen grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Everett Stafford, sister Mildred (LeRoy) Diehl, great grandson Dolan Stafford, father and mother-in-law Irve (Mary) Stafford, sister and brother-in-law Hattie (Wes) Matthias, brother and sister-in-law August (Nellie) Stafford and a daughter-in-law Judy Stafford. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly with Pastor Carolyn Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and for an hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
