Carl Lewis Baumgartner Obituary

Carl L. Baumgartner, age 82, of Litchfield died on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Abbott Northwest Hospital in Minneapolis. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 17, 2015, at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 16th at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery with military honors provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Carl Lewis Baumgartner, the son of Roy and Gladys (Cram) Baumgartner, was born on January 4, 1933 in Manannah. He grew up near Manannah and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1950. Following high school Carl began work in road construction. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and in 1952 he began working for Johnson Bros. Construction. On July 16, 1955, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Mae Sorum in Rothsay, MN. Together they moved to several different states while Carl worked on different projects for Johnson Bros. He even spent time in Nigeria for his work. Carl had an Engineer's mind and with no formal training could solve many difficult problems. He enjoyed his work and was a friend and mentor to many coworkers. In 1972 they bought the family farm near Litchfield. He retired in 1996 after working 44 years for Johnson Bros. Carl was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Sylvia of Litchfield; children, Wayne (Mattie) Baumgartner of Litchfield, Allen Baumgartner of Strasberg, CO, Lisa (Aaron) Bonds of Robbinsdale; daughter-in-law, Margaret Baumgartner of Strasberg, CO; grandchildren, Karissa (Ike) Isakson, Adam (Leslie) Baumgartner, Joshua (Mindy) Baumgartner, Jacob, Casey, Brianna and Benjamin Baumgartner; great grandchildren, Cory (fiancée Taryn) Ringwelski, Allyson Isakson, Amanda Isakson, Trinity Greene, Brady Baumgartner, Mason Baumgartner and great great grandchild, Gauge Ringwelski. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Vern and James and a sister Jean Eckhoff.
