<p>John Dean Clewley, PhD<br /> Dover, MA</p> <p>Dean Clewley, passed away at Avita of Needham on March 2, 2021 at the age of 84.&nbsp; Dean was born August 30, 1936 in Albany, New York, son of G. William and Anna (Balfort) Clewley. He grew up in Newport then Montpelier, VT. Dean graduated from Montpelier High School, where he was captain of the ski team, in 1954.</p> <p>Dean graduated Middlebury College class of &rsquo;58. He worked for GE in Burlington and went on to earn his MS and PhD in physics from UVM in 1966 and &rsquo;71 respectively.&nbsp; Dean was a physics professor at Trinity College and a researcher in the chemistry department at University of Vermont. He collaborated on more than 55 scientific papers in his field.&nbsp; He led students on an annual snowshoe trek over Mount Hunger.<br /> Dean loved the outdoors, his dogs and racing lightning class sailboats on Lake Champlain. He bought a camp at Cedar Beach in Charlotte, which is where he met Betsy Clark. They were married May 14, 1966. They loved to stay at the summer camp as much of the year as possible. He could build or fix anything. He enjoyed mowing the fields and logging for fire wood at the family deer camp in Worcester.&nbsp; &nbsp;<br /> Dean is survived by his children, Anne Clewley of Saint Pauls, NC and Liesl Schultze and husband Dietrich of Dover, MA, and two grandchildren, Katrina and Heidi Schultze.&nbsp; He also leaves behind nephews Kevin, Jeff and Tim Clewley and their families. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Dr. Elizabeth Clark Clewley, and his brother D. Bruce Clewley.&nbsp; &nbsp;A burial at Lakeview Cemetery is pending.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>Arrangements are in care of Corbin &amp; Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant Street, Essex Junction, VT.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<br /> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

Dean Clewley, passed away at Avita of Needham on March 2, 2021 at the age of 84.  Dean was born August 30, 1936 in Albany, New York, son of G. William and Anna (Balfort) Clewley.
