Jeannine Joyce Hampton, age 83, of Leon, Iowa, was born to Joe Ree and Minnie Lou (Patterson) Stevenson, at Logan, Kansas, on March 27, 1937. She left this life to be with the Lord on March 6, 2021, at Mercy One Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. When Jeannine and her mother were able to travel, they returned to their home near Gypsum, Colorado. In 1938, the family moved to a farm southeast of Clearfield, Iowa. Growing up in Ringgold County, Jeannine was active in 4-H and enjoyed taking piano lessons. She was baptized at the Christian Church in Clearfield when she was 12 years old. Jeannine gave piano lessons and accompanied the mixed chorus and glee clubs at Clearfield High School until she graduated. She was united in marriage to Richard H. Morey on June 4, 1954. To this union three children were born, Curtis Eugene, Richard Ree, and Melody Lynn. Jeannine was a stay at home mom and enjoyed attending all her children’s activities. She enjoyed all the activities at church, teaching Sunday school and Bible school, and was a CYF leader. Jeannine was an avid bridge player and bowled until the alleys closed in Clearfield. In 1973, the family moved to a farm near Leon, Iowa where they attended Calvary Baptist Church in Leon. Jeannine married Guy Hampton at Mt. Ayr, Iowa on November 9, 1974, and lived on a farm south of Davis City, Iowa. At this time the family attended New Salem Baptist Church. She worked for two years as a teller at the Decatur County State Bank, now Great Western Bank. On November 1, 1977, she was hired as a permanent employee of the State of Iowa as a secretary for the Department of Soil Conservation, where she worked for 28 years. In February of 1988, Jeannine was chosen as the Division of Soil Conservation Employee of the Month and in recognition was dinner guest of Governor Terry Branstad that March. Jeannine and Guy started attending the Christian Church when it was still located in Leon and continued when the new church was built west of Decatur and renamed Trinity Christian Church. She enjoyed playing bridge in three clubs, bowling, and traveling with the For-Get-Me-Nots to restaurants in the area. She raised many beautiful flowers and a large vegetable garden. Jeannine adored her grandchildren and later the great granddaughters were the light of her life. Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Curtis Morey; stepsons, Michael Hampton and Kirk Hampton; brothers-in-law, Bill Mozingo, Dennis Hampton, Frank Hampton, and Ralph Hampton.
