We mournfully announce the passing of Joe Michael Lira, also known as “Uncle Mike”, 78, of Billings Montana. Joe passed away on 03/02/2021, after a hard-fought battle due to complications of COVID-19 virus.
Joe, born to Josephine Garcia Jara and Jose Bernard Lira, took his first breath on December 24th, 1942. Joe worked as a preschool teacher, as well as in a consignment store which he enjoyed as he loved helping and giving to others.

Joe lived a full and vibrant life with more friends and family than you could count. Joe loved writing poems; he wrote a book of poems that was published. Joe also enjoyed drawing, showing card tricks, shopping at thrift stores and garage sales, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family but most of all, his love and passion for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is to be commended.

Joe was preceded in death by brothers Chencho, Pete, Mike, Frank, Sammy, and Santos, as well as son’s Felix and Sam.

Joe was survived by his brother Paul, sister-in-law Bonnie, his children Christina, Frank, Michael, Ramona, Shelly, as well as two stepdaughters Mary Victoria and Beverly. 22 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Joe’s nephews and nieces meant more to him than words can describe. We will miss him dearly.

Viewing will be held at Smith’s Funeral Home on 3/5/2021 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. His service will be held at Billings Praise Center on 3/6/2021 from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Kandice Salazar for the service.
