Nancy A. Sisler Obituary

Nancy A. Sisler, age 79, longtime resident of the Dundee area and former educator with School District U-46 in Elgin, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Loyola University Medical Center. Born in Dubuque, Iowa, on August 17, 1941, to Harold and Mary Maus, Nancy graduated as salutatorian of her class from Savanna Community High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb. She married the love of her life, Richard N. “Dick” Sisler, on November 28, 1964, in Elgin, Illinois. Dick preceded Nancy in death on February 7, 2019, after 54 years of marriage. Nancy was a gifted and respected elementary school teacher and enjoyed a 32 year career in School District U-46, retiring from Hanover Countryside Elementary School. She loved working with her first graders and teaching them to read so much that she continued as a volunteer working with elementary students in School District 300 for many years after retirement. She also enjoyed keeping in touch with numerous former students. She was a longtime faithful and active member of First Congregational Church of Dundee, serving as a deaconess, greeter, Sunday School teacher, and helper with dinners, cookie walks, and funeral refreshments. Known to many as the “Card Lady,” Nancy started, and worked passionately on, a 20 year project of recycling donated greeting cards and transforming them into beautiful new ones that she then sold, donating all proceeds to the Elgin Crisis Center. She loved to help others, find a good bargain, and play bridge and Bunco with friends, but she loved nothing more than playing the role of “Gram” and keeping up with her adored grandchildren and their busy lives, faithfully attending their concerts, musicals, games, and meets. Nancy loved life and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Susan (Douglas) Ellett, Michael (Rebecca) Sisler, and her grandchildren, Taylor Ellett (Kyle Loftus), Connie (Connor) Nelson, Samuel Sisler, and Lilli Sisler. She is also survived by her brother, Tom Maus, many nieces and nephews, and countless loving and faithful friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and parents. Inurnment will be private in the Churchyard Columbarium, with a Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, August 1, 2021 at 1:00 pm at First Congregational Church, 900 S. Eighth St. (Route 31) in West Dundee with Rev. Aaron James officiating. Memorial Visitation will be held at the church from 12:00-1:00 P.M. Donations may be made in her memory to The Dundee Township Rotary Foundation/the Richard N. & Nancy A. Sisler Scholarship, P.O. Box 243, Dundee, IL, 60118 (this ongoing scholarship benefits college bound students pursuing a career in elementary education), or the charity of your choice.
