<p>Sandy Cross -</p> <p>Robert &ldquo;Robbie&rdquo; McRae Pate, 65, passed away March 1, 2021 after a courageous battle with COVID.&nbsp; He was born on March 3, 1955 to Robert H. and Hilda E. Pate. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Everleigh Rose Wallace; brother, Neal Pate; sister, Ginger Pate; sister-in-law, Alice Smith; brother-in-law, Steve Smith; mother-in-law, Dorothy Carraway; father-in-law, John Carraway and nephew, Jimmy Batts.</p> <p>&nbsp;Robbie was a loving husband, father, Papa and Paw Paw to his grandchildren. He valued his family and God above all else. He had a passion for music which he shared for the glory of God each Sunday with the praise team at NorthSide Community Church.&nbsp; He taught guitar lessons for many years and enjoyed building cigar box guitars and dulcimers.</p> <p>Robbie leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 45 years, Elaine Carraway Pate; daughters, Heather Pate Winstead and husband, Matthew of Sandy Cross and Holly Pate of Nashville; grandchildren, Ashley McRea Pate and fianc&eacute;, Trey Williams of Nashville, Bayleigh Nicole Pate of Sandy Cross, Connor Jason Brown of Nashville, Milton Drake Wallace of Nashville; brother, Tim Pate of Castalia; sister-in-law, Joyce Batts and husband, James of Sandy Cross; nieces and nephews, Erin Pate and wife, Bonnie of Summerdale, AL, Tim Pate of Wilson, Crystal Pate of Castalia, Aimee Tilley and husband, Ira of Reidsville NC, Edward Smith and wife, Erica of Browns Summit, NC; and several great nieces, nephews, and many special friends.</p> <p>Most of Robbie&rsquo;s life was devoted to giving himself to helping others. He worked with Coopers Fire Department and Stoney Creek Rescue for many years. He was a member of the Rocky Mount Fire Department since 1984 and retired in September of 2015 as a Battalion Chief and Fire Marshall. He also taught classes with the NC Fire Prevention School for many years.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p> <p>A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021. Robert “Robbie” McRae Pate, 65, passed away March 1, 2021 after a courageous battle with COVID.  He was born on March 3, 1955 to Robert H. and Hilda E. Pate. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Everleigh Rose Wallace; brother, Neal Pate; sister, Ginger Pate; sister-in-law, Alice Smith; brother-in-law, Steve Smith; mother-in-law, Dorothy Carraway; father-in-law, John Carraway and nephew, Jimmy Batts.

 Robbie was a loving husband, father, Papa and Paw Paw to his grandchildren. He valued his family and God above all else. He had a passion for music which he shared for the glory of God each Sunday with the praise team at NorthSide Community Church.  He taught guitar lessons for many years and enjoyed building cigar box guitars and dulcimers.
