Obituary for Anne Dorothy Salcak (Bahula)

Salcak – Anne Dorothy (Bahula) of Nanaimo, B.C.

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Kiwanis Village Lodge, Nanaimo.

Anne was born in Czechoslovakia in 1926. She immigrated as a young child to Canada with her younger sister Mary (Deserrano) and parents, the late John Sr. and Mary (Milos) Bahula and settled in Norfolk County, Ontario. There she met and married the love of her life, her husband Anthony (Tony) Salcak in 1946. They started their life together in the village of Eden and later moved to Simcoe where they resided for most of their lives. In 2013 they moved to Nanaimo BC to be closer to family.

Anne was well known for her dedication to family and friends and was loved and respected for her genuine kindness, warm hugs and unconditional love. She was a wonderful cook and baker and her family and friends appreciated all of the amazing meals, desserts and treats that she prepared for them.

Both Anne and Tony were long time members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Simcoe and more recently Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Nanaimo.

Survived by her children Rick (Mary) Salcak of Nanaimo, Toni (Bernie) Smink of Calgary and proud grandmother of Amy (Jason) Shepherd of Nanaimo and Megan Salcak of Vancouver and much-loved great-grandchildren Avery and Charlotte Shepherd of Nanaimo. Also survived by much loved nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and the Czech Republic. Anne is predeceased by her beloved husband Tony (2014) sister Mary Deserrano (2012), sister Edna Bahula (2000) and brother John Bahula Jr (1998), as well as her brothers-in-law Joe Salcak (2019) and Bob Nunn (1978) sisters-in-law Dianne Proctor (2017) and Anna Nunn (2015)

Anne has left us with so many fond and happy memories that she along with husband Tony will always be lovingly missed and live in our hearts forever.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Kiwanis Village Lodge for the great kindness and care they provided to Anne for the past 3 years, especially under the difficult circumstances during the past year, as well as her Doctor, Patrick Kerridge for his attention and care. We also wish to thank the Staff of The Origin in Nanaimo where Anne and Tony were welcomed and became part of the community upon their arrival in Nanaimo.

When circumstances permit, a memorial service will be held in Simcoe, Ontario. A notice of such will follow at a future date.

Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice in her memory would be welcome.
