Helen Leona Thury, 94, died at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston with burial following in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Parkston. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 5:30 - 6:30 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston with a wake service at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Shriners. Helen was born on February 12, 1927 to Joseph and Elinor (Hohn) Wermers on the family farm near Dimock. She attended elementary school in Dimock and graduated from Parkston High School. On June 9, 1948, she was united in marriage to Louis Thury in Dimock. Together they farmed near Parkston until retiring in 1984 and moved to Parkston. Helen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society in Parkston. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, dancing with her husband, and spending time with her family. She is survived by 10 children: Dennis (Marge) Thury of Parker, CO; Cathy Thury (Bob) of Pipestone, MN; Rick (Nancy) Thury of Jamestown, ND; Alice (John) Fitzgerald of Sioux Falls, SD; Steve (Gilda) Thury of Arlington, SD; Julie (Brian) Hofer of Mitchell, SD; Chris (Cheryl) Thury of Parker, CO; Jane (Monty) Munkvold of Vermillion, SD; Jerry (Patty) Thury of Mitchell, SD; and Kevin (Kristi) Thury of Sioux Falls, SD; 3 sisters: Millie Thury of Sioux Falls, SD; Alice Lichter of Mitchell, SD; and Elnor Finkenbeiner of Rapid City, SD; brother: Lyle Wermers of Virginia Beach, VA; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Gary Thury, 2 brothers, John and Gerald, and 2 sisters, Mary Smith and Joan Ferg
