Audrey Ruble Check, 94, Lewistown, passed away February 26, 2021.  Born in McVeytown, January 13, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Beulah (Rupert) Ruble.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Check, on January 20, 2021.  Audrey and Bill were married on June 25, 1949 and enjoyed 71 wonderful years together.  She was also preceded in death by: a son, Robert B. Check; a brother, Russell Ruble; sisters, Leona Fink and Lorma Holsinger; and daughter-in-law, Ann Rose Check. 

Audrey graduated from McVeytown-Oliver High School, earned a B.S. in Music Education from West Chester University and had further studies at Penn State University.

After graduation, she taught elementary music at Haddonfield, N.J. schools, Line Mountain School District, and 19 years at the Mifflin County School District.  Much of that time was spent as a music teacher at Buchanan Elementary.

Audrey enjoyed playing the flute with the Lewistown Symphony Orchestra, Haddonfield Concert Band and Philadelphia All-Girl Symphony Orchestra.  In her youth, she was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren.  Later, she joined St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was Director of the Handbell Choir, a member of the Chancel Choir, and Family Circle Class.  She enjoyed volunteering at the Mifflin County Library and as a pianist at Ohesson Manor.

Audrey was a loving mother, an accomplished teacher and, until recently, was still preparing three meals a day for she and Bill.

She is survived by sons, Dr. William Check and his wife Sheryl Check and grandson, Adam Check, of Great Falls, Va., and Brian Check, of Schwenksville, Pa., and a number of nieces and nephews.

A private burial will be held with her immediate family.  A celebration of life service for both Audrey and Bill will be held at a later date.
