On Friday, February 26, 2021 Donald Jay Shuey passed away at the age of 80 surrounded by loved ones.  Donald was born on October 4, 1940 in Bellefonte PA. to Wilbur and Bernice Gardner-Shuey. He had 2 sisters, and 4 brothers. On April 2, 1958 he married Carol Kay Young, they remained together for 55 years, and raised five daughters, Doreen, Dawn, Debbie, Diane and Donna.  Donald, (everyone knew him as “Shuey” ), graduated in 1959 from Bellefonte Area High School. He had a passion for life, and all that it offered. He was a hard worker, and a jack of all trades. Creative on all levels, inventing and building many things.  Shuey retired from Climax molybdenum mine as a welder.  After retirement he moved his family to Florence, Colorado.  He and his wife owned several properties throughout the years in the Canon City, Florence area. A lover of nature and a collector of appealing things, he kept very busy always with his loyal dog by his side, but never too busy to crack a joke and make you smile. He had a large family that loved him dearly, he will be truly missed.  He is survived by four of his daughters, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife Carol K. Shuey , daughter Doreen A. Shuey, twin sister Donna J. Miller-Shuey, brother Edward Shuey and great grandson Jacob Lane Curnutt.  A funeral service will be held on March 5, 2021, at 1:00 pm at the Harwood Chapel, 516 N. 10th, Canon City, Co.  Donations may be sent to Sangre de Cristo Hospice, 601 Greenwood Ave.
