Esther Pinto Bacelis
<p>Esther Pinto passed in the early hours of February 8th, 2021 at Watsonville Community Hospital just days after her husband passed. She was born in Sinanche, Yucatan, Mexico on May 3rd, 1947. She was the oldest of 8 kids.</p> <p>In 1963, she married the love of her life Jose Pinto. They had one son, Jardiel Pinto and when he was 3 years old, they decided to move to Watsonville for a better life. In California, she became a farmworker and worked alongside her husband in the fields for many years. She also took part in the Farmworker’s Union marches and protests in Sacramento. This is something she was very proud of and would tell her grandchildren stories about.</p> <p>In 1984, when Esther became a grandma for the first time, she decided to leave her job and stay home to raise her granddaughter so that her son and daughter-in-law could work full time. Eventually, she became a grandma to 4 grandchildren and dedicated all her time to raising them. Spending all her days with them made her happy.</p> <p>Esther’s hobbies included crocheting, cooking, sewing by hand, crossword puzzles/word searches, and spending time with family. She had many family members who did not live close by and she enjoyed calling everyone frequently to see how they were doing. She also loved telling her grandchildren stories about how she grew up in Mexico, but her most favorite story of all was the one about how she met her husband. She would talk about how she would wait for him by her window every day and he would ride his bike to see her. He would stand under a tree outside her window even in the rain just to be able to talk to her. When they got married, he made her wedding dress, and her wedding flowers were gladiolas. That was why he planted gladiolas in their garden and always kept one in a vase for her on the table. It was also why they always kept the old bicycle in their yard no matter how rusted it got. They had such a sweet love story and were married for 57 years until they passed away just days from each other. </p> <p>She is survived by her 7 brothers and sisters; Lidia Noemi, Jose Nehemias, Rebeca, Delti Elisabet, Alma Abigail, Isaias, and Luis Antonio Caamal Pat, and 4 grandchildren; Kimberly Pinto, Christy Soler, Jardiel Pinto Jr., Jordan Pinto, and many nieces and nephews.</p> <p>Mehl’s Colonial Chapel has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.</p>May 3, 1947 - February 8, 202105/03/194702/08/2021
