Mrs. Lela Randall Obituary

Lela Pearl Randall, daughter of the late Willie and Minnie Galloway, was born on June 2, 1930 in Supply, North Carolina.  Surrounded by family at home, she peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on February 27, 2021 after a courageous 13 year battle against Alzheimer’s disease.

As an active member of First Baptist Church of Hampton for 58 years, she served faithfully in the Women’s Auxiliary and Food Service Ministry.  She was awarded the Saint’s Salute for her dedicated work.  She was also very active in the community.  She spent her free time visiting area nursing homes and sharing her endearing laughter which brightened everyone’s day.  Lela was very stylish and had a flair for fashion.  Known for her beautiful church hats and trendy casual caps, there was rarely a time that she was seen outside of the home without wearing one.

Lela was the youngest of nine children and deeply devoted to her family.  She was a source of wisdom and encouragement for all who knew her.  Her love of Christ was reflected in the way she raised her children and grandchildren.  Even in the latter stages of her disease, she hummed tunes and praised the Lord daily.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving and supportive husband Louis Randall, son Raymond Nathaniel Randall, daughter-in-law Anita Randall, and all eight of her siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted daughter Dianne Foster Peterson and son-in-law James Peterson of Hampton, VA; three loving grandchildren, David Catling of St. Louis, MO, Jared Foster of Atlanta, GA, and Brittany Foster of Hampton, VA; three great-grandchildren, David Catling, Jr., Davonte Catling, and Dawson McRee of St. Louis, MO; two great-great grandsons, David Catling III and Dorrian Catling of St. Louis, MO; two step-grandchildren, James Peterson II (Denise) of James City County, VA and Corey Peterson of Chesapeake, VA; one step great-granddaughter, Francine Peterson of James City County, VA; a special relative who was loved like a son, Russell Hill of Ash, NC; and best friend, Marilyn Hemingway of Hampton, VA.

She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Samuel Randall of Little River, SC; two sisters-in-law, Essie Hill of Ash, NC and Fannie Smith of Little River, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Paul Evans and staff at InnovAge Virginia Pace for their kindness and care during mom’s illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hampton Habitat for Humanity Project or the local Alzheimer’s Association.
