Shirley A. King Obituary

Shirley A. King, age 82, of Summerfield, Ohio, died Saturday, February 27, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born October 5, 1938, in Durango, Colorado, daughter of the late Gail E. and Stella F. Brewer Thompson. She graduated from Bayfield High School in Bayfield, Colorado, and the Bible Missionary Institute in Rock Island, Illinois. Shirley was a member of the Marietta Bible Missionary Church. She loved bird watching, reading, singing, and playing the piano. She enjoyed the many duties of being a farm wife: gardening, canning, working in the hayfield, delivering calves, baking homemade bread, and churning butter from the farm’s dairy cows. She was a loving wife and mother who was always willing to make any sacrifice necessary for the good of her family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Junior D. King, whom she married November 1, 1976, and who died January 7, 2021. Surviving are one daughter, Krista G. King of Summerfield; one brother, Keith (Charlotte) Thompson of Dundee; one sister, Barbara (Larry) Dunn of North Pole, Alaska; and several nephews and cousins. Friends may call Monday, March 1, 2021, from 1-3PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 3PM with Rev. Bill Grizer officiating. Burial will follow at East Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beulah Mountain Christian Academy, 2995 Beulah Heights Rd., Whitley City, Kentucky, 42653. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the McVay-Perkins Funeral Home Facebook page for those unable to attend. Guests are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing as required by the state of Ohio.
