Carla Rose Amlung Obituary

Carla Rose Amlung of Jeffersontown, Ky. passed away peacefully on February 25, 2021, at Norton Hospital Brownsboro in Louisville, after a long illness.

Born May 13, 1957, loving partner to Marcia Martin for 25 years, beloved sister to Joe Amlung (RiAna), Patrick Amlung (Lisa), Tom Amlung (Pam), and Virginia Reitan, Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Martin J. Amlung Jr., and Clara T. Amlung.

Carla was an effervescent and outgoing person who never met a stranger, and was a favorite aunt to her many nieces and nephews. We will all sorely miss her zest for life, interest in people, love of family, and quirky sense of humor.

Carla graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and attended the University of Louisville. She was an artist in stained glass and a superb athlete. Her treasured creations adorn the homes of family and friends. She had a storied career as a high school athlete, and was the starting center for Sacred Heart’s 1976 Kentucky State Champion women’s basketball team. In 1998 Carla was recognized as one of the top 50 KHSAA women’s basketball players of all time. She is still #8 all time in most points scored in a single game by an individual.

Carla will be interred in the family plot in Cave Hill cemetery, with a memorial service to be scheduled at a later date.

Expressions of sympathy can be made by donation to the Kentucky Humane Society or other charity of your choice.
